For us this worked for a long time since she would just munch on things with her gums (she didn’t get teeth until around 10 months). Now that she is older she wants to actually chew and swallow her food and I have found certain foods she needs cut up into smaller pieces so she can eat them better. If they are in chunks she gets frustrated and throws them on the floor. So now her plate looks more like this:

She does so much better with it and enjoys her meals a lot more.

The moment I have been waiting for since the day Capri was born and I was eating peanut butter toast over her little tiny head. I love peanut butter (like I can eat an entire jar by myself with a spoon in a very short amount of time).

The first time Capri ate peanut product was on my pad thai which I didn’t even think about. She didn’t have any reactions so I figured we were good. I made her some honey toast one day when she was about 13 months and the next day I made her a peanut butter and honey sandwich. She LOVED it. She ate the whole thing and didn’t have an issue with the stickiness.

We waiting until she was 1 for her to have honey because of the bacteria that is in it that can be very bad for babies. And I know lots of people say to wait until a baby is like 90 (okay maybe 2) before you give them peanut products but whatever she was fine. So there you have it. My 13 month old eating a very yummy sandwich.

She also enjoyed it on a spoon like her mommy.

Capri turned one on June 19th, and on the 18th we had her party. Up until this point she had not had any sweets so it was a big day for her.

She had a watermelon themed party so this was her slice of watermelon (though she ate real watermelon and other fruits and veggies before and after this).

When you think about most photos of a baby trying their first cake you think HUGE mess and cake all over their face. Well I came to the realization that we would not have a huge mess. She is such a neat eater to begin with (for a baby), and she knows how to feed herself (thanks to BLW). She just started scraping the icing off the top and licking it, she hardly touched the actual cake.

This was as messy as she got. But she enjoyed it I think. Since that day she has tried ice cream (with peanut butter in it), but for the most part she won’t eat a lot of sweets. I love sweets but am trying to cut back. But some cake here and there won’t kill her.

We live in a really small town, and our farmers market is super lame…but we have TWO Thai vendors at it. I am always scared to try new food and Thai food always scares me because I have friends that live there and they always talk about the spicy-ness of Thai food. So I decided to get some Pad Thai on Friday (because Pad Thai is their mild dish which is not spicy – at least this one was not). Capri sat on my lap and ate right out of my dish. We had a few strange looks from people and a few compliments. We both loved it and Capri kept trying to use my chopsticks. I like that I can say my almost 1 year old has eaten Pad Thai.

I have been dying to give Capri corn on the cob. And it has started showing up in the stores more and is on sale and Capri has 1.5 teeth so we got some. We roasted it in the oven and cut hers in half.

It had some butter and pepper on it and she had no problems with it. She picked it up and started scraping corn off with the one tooth that is actually almost all the way in. She was able to scrape about 1/4 of the corn off and she did eat it (trust me on that one).

We used quick oats and mixed them with some water and vanilla (because plain is just gross). It was not bad and she seemed to really like it. You have to clean it up fast because once oatmeal dries on the baby it becomes like cement. And it amazes me every time she does eat with a spoon at how good she is with it since most meals she just uses her hands.

Popcorn – this was something I was not planning on feeding to my daughter for a while because I still gag on it and I am 24. We had friends over the other night for a movie night and Capri decided sleep was over rated and staying up with the grown ups was a much better idea. She was sitting with her daddy who was eating his bowl of popcorn and he made a comment about feeding it to her. I have to admit I FREAKED OUT. I looked back a few seconds later and she was eating a piece.

I had a bit of negative feedback on Facebook when I mentioned that she was eating popcorn, but it was also from people who still worry about their kids choking and they are in elementary school. She did amazing with it. She didn’t even gag on those little pieces that get stuck in my throat all the time.

She kept crawling up into her daddy’s lap begging for more. He just kept handing it over and she ate it with no problems. It was awesome.

She absolutely loved it. It won’t be something she eats all the time because bacon is pretty high in salt, but we don’t eat it all the time (as much as we love it).

The first time she had it the bacon was not super crispy and she had issues chewing it, the second we cooked it more and she was able to break off the crispy goodness.

If you want to cook a lot of bacon at one time it works best in the oven and comes out perfect.
