My husband is a big fan of Vietnamese Pho. A couple months ago (I’m behind in writing posts!) we tried out a little family-run restaurant within walking distance from our apartment. The boys loved it! Pho, for those who don’t know, is a rice noodle soup with bits of beef, then you add basil, jalapenos, hoisin sauce, and bean sprouts to it as you like. Mint and lime are also traditional, depending on the region of Vietnam.
While the soup itself was a little too messy for me to want to venture giving Baby J his own bowl in public, I handed him some pieces of beef and noodles. He made short work of them, particularly the meat! It’s cut thin enough that it’s fairly easy for still-toothless babies like J to pull apart with their gums and swallow.
Definitely a dish we’ll be having again and again!

Fun! We’ve done pho a couple of times with Sebastian and he loved it as well. Now that he fits in a high chair comfortably we typically get him an appetizer and then share the rest of the meal. Usually there is something cheap we can get quickly that is baby-friendly (low mess) and that keeps him entertained until the rest of the food comes and we can split it up.
Love it! My husband and I are HUGE fans of pho, we eat it at least once or twice a week. We haven’t ventured to give baby some yet, but now I’m tempted to let him have a taste of the beef and noodles since we know he isn’t allergic to either. Hmmmm
SO cute!
We love this type of food too!
What was your favorite part about the Pho? And didn’t your little man find it to be strong in taste?
We didn’t season his, so it was more about exploring the textures for him than all the different tastes. Now that he’s older though, he likes the stronger tastes!
Oh, that’s great!
Hi, we love Pho too! We let our dd try some broth around 6 months and she absolutely loved it. Now that we’ve started solids (sorta) it’s time to go back to our favorite restaurant and have another go at it.
