Last night Sebastian tried corn on the cob for the first time. (These photos were taken during a brief power outage so they are a little washed out.) He mostly nibbled the kernels on the edges but clearly really liked it. This particular corn was grown in Grandma’s garden, making it extra special.

Most foods work fine for babies without teeth but corn on the cob is probably an exception. Sebastian has three top teeth and three bottoms, just enough to scrape off bits of corn.

At one point I think the cob hurt his gums but he quickly got over it and went back to chomping.
It seemed like Sebastian found corn on the cob to be both tasty and novel/entertaining. He carried it around with him for awhile, happily munching on it in between playing with his toys. Later I found the mostly-finished cob inside of his shape sorter toy.
If you do corn on the cob with your wee one, do be sure to check for stuck kernels after eating and possibly brush teeth later. Brushing with a soft brush and warm water is a good practice for any baby on solids. Sebastian actually really likes having his little teeth brushed. Like infant pottying, it is a good habit to get them used to.

It’s so nice to see these pictures! Sebastian and his 6 teeth did quite a job on the cob!
I gave my toothless little one corn on the cob and she was very interested in the texture and seemed to enjoy that it didn’t break apart, but there was definitely no proof in her diaper that she got a single kernel in her system…
Awww bless Sebastian! Corn on the cob was one of the first things I introduced to my little boy at 6 months (he had 3 teeth by then!) and it has been a firm favourite ever since. Mummy quite likes it too… infact when my sister and I were kids and our parents would take us to restaurants we always asked for corn on the cob and kicked off if they didn’t have it! x

My girl LOVES corn on the cob. Since we are mostly grain free I almost never cook it, but she’s had it 3 times and I think the novelty was part of the fun, like you said.
The first time, she ate all the corn off of both ends, and then I – trying to be helpful – took the corn to try to cut off the kernels in the middle. She was SO UPSET!!!! I gave her the cob back, and she clutched it tightly while eating the kernels off of her plate. She was upset for maybe half an hour. It was so sad! Lesson learned – keep it baby-driven. haha.
I feel like an idiot because I didn’t think of that. He leaves the middle section untouched as well. Next time I’ll take it and cut it like you said! Sebastian doesn’t like things being taken away but he gets over it quickly.
Thank you for posting this! I was a little unsure about giving my little guy (7mo) some corn on the cob tonight, but in trying to follow BLW methods, I wanted him to have the same dinner as we did. Long (and messy!) story short, he loved it. Thanks for the vote of confidence!
