My mother makes organic strawberry jam every summer and of course it was something we had to feed Sebastian. He loves strawberries almost as much as he loves bread. I was planning on just spreading jam on a slice of whole wheat, mess be damned, when it occurred to me that he would probably do better with finger sandwiches. I put together two tiny sandwiches from one slice of bread and less than a spoonful of jam. The result was the perfect snack, filling and delicious and hardly messy at all.
We let Zeb eat snacks standing at the coffee table or sitting on the floor. I like the casual feeding setup because it lets him make his own choices about when and how much to eat. He can easily crawl away when he’s satisfied. He typically has a drink available to him at all times as well, either diluted juice, whole milk or water. With his little sandwiches he had organic whole milk as you can see in the last photo below.

I love this low-prep snack that is happily devoured and cleans up easy. What are your go-to meals for baby?

“Go to meals”… A banana, if her poop has been on the softer side. helps firm things up. haha. She can eat an entire banana so it’s filling for her.
I also try to have some leftover pancakes in the fridge or a similar grain-free (very high protein because of all the eggs) bread-like thing. It’s one of the easiest things for her to eat, and I can put butter on it for more calories and good fats. As small as she is, I want the most bang for her bite, so these are great when she’s not swallowing as much of the other foods (meat, veggies).
when we ran out of pancakes for her this week, I made grain-free zucchini bread, and she has been LOVING it.
Our go-to food would have to be a “grazing plate”… When he’s hungry before a meal is ready or when I’m not planning on making a whole meal, I arrange a plate of a few things that we always have on hand – cheese, chick peas, frozen raspberries (he only likes them frozen :/ ), and olives. I keep these foods on hand because they seem to be his favorite… and it’s so easy to whip out a handful to fill up a plate.
That is a good idea – I should do some grazing plates; I feel like that would be good for learning & development as well.
Also look at “muffin tin meals” (just google it) and find a really cute way to do “grazing plates”… love it!
